Harpswell is the most southeastern city in Cumberland, situated on the southwestern peninsula of Casco Bay in the Atlantic Ocean. On each side, the peninsula is bordered by other parallel islands. Harpswell is on the east side and Middle Bay on the west side.
The characteristic of this location is that there are three large islands connected by bridges: Sebascodegan Island (locally known as Great Island), Orr's Island, and Bailey Island, and over 200 smaller islands.
Harpswell's top industries are agriculture, shipbuilding, but most of all, fishing. Harpswell is also popular with artists and tourists. The city also has two public libraries. Cundy's Harbor Library is located on Sebascodegan Island, Harpswell, and Orr's Island Library is on Orr Island.
Maine State Route 10 runs over Sebascodegan Island and Maine State Route 123 at Harpswell. The town is also crossed by state route 24. The well-kept transport infrastructure makes using local restaurants, pubs and beautiful parks extremely easy and pleasant.
Harpswell is part of the 75 Maine School Administrative District with Bowdoin, Bowdoinham, and Topsham.
